The word identity is complicated because their's is no one definition that define it. Sociologist and Psychologists defines it in relation to their area of interest. To me as a psychology student the word identity refers to the capacity for self _ reflection and the awareness of self. Johnson (1986) defines it as an umbrella term used throughout the social sciences for an individual's comprehension of him or herself as a discrete, separate entity. In sociology

A society is a self-perpetuating grouping of individuals occupying a particular territory, which may have its own distinctive culture and institutions. Society can also be defined as a group of people that form a semi-closed social system, in which most interactions are with other individuals belonging to the group.
