Although the iodine has low solubility, it can still be prepared by dissolving iodine in a small volume of concentrated solution of potassium iodide. To ensure complete solution, care should be taken to avoid dilution of the concentrated solution until the last piece of solid iodine has disappeared. This can be done by filtering the solution through a sintered glass crucible before standardization.
