People are naturally drawn to power and wealth. Power exudes an opulence, a bright center to an otherwise harsh or dreary existence. Over time social classes have emerged. In Egypt one may see a complex social pyramid, in India the same. For Rome one sees a simple social system. Plebeians and patricians, the "haves" and the "have-nots". The "haves" and the "have-nots" always seem to invent new ways to make parts of the other turn into one of their own. The solutions to eliminate the "have-not" group are not exactly the best. Everyone is responsible for the human race, but mostly for themselves. Finally, the solutions to this problem discourage most. The struggle between "have" and "have-not" will continue into the foreseeable future.
