The object of this essay is to discuss two passages from 'A Vindication of the Rights of Woman (1792) , and to identify in what ways, and to what extent this text is 'modern'. Wollstonecraft's legacy to us is that these issues were raised for public debate in a time when women were extremely oppressed both domestically and in the public arena. That many of these issues are still being debated indicates that the road to genuine equality of the genders has not yet been completed.
