Pol Pot was the Cambodian equivalent of Germany's Hitler, attempting to purify the nation through massive genocidal ethnic cleansing. Generally assumed to be born as Saloth Sar on between January and May on the 25th of a month, 1925, in an unknown village just north of Phnom Penh, he was raised as a normal child. After he had ordered the killing of Son Sen, his old comrade, and his family, Pol Pot was arrested by the one-legged Ta Mok, the military commander. In July a "people's tribunal" sentenced Pol Pot to life imprisonment. Pol Pot died on April 15, 1998, from medical complications (ie, natural causes). His deathly mark on Cambodia will most likely never be lifted.
