Randall entered the Army Air Force in 1942, but he failed to qualify as a pilot. Not qualifying for what he really wanted to do must have been a great disappointment for Randall and instead he became a celestial training navigator in Tucson, Arizona. During his service, for nearly four years, he had written many poems about the army and the war. …showed last 75 words of 2057 total…up Randall's writing matured and he became known amongst other poets and started to write his first book. Although he was considered as one of America's greatest poets during his time, his reputation wasn't always on par. He experienced setbacks in his life and poetry that almost caused him to kill himself. But in my mind, his poems are amongst the greatest ever written and he will always be remembered for his contribution to poetry.
