The goals of Tenskwatawa were to unite all the Indians into an intertribal confederacy under his leadership, stop the American land encroachment and ensure Indian survival. Certainly not at the population previous to American colonization, but considering the alternative of possibility of extinction, their existence today is remarkable. The Prophet certainly has to be given some credit for his remarkable cunning and insight, at times, in securing not only his longevity and survival, but that of his people, the Shawnee, as well.
