Elizabeth Muriel Gregory MacGill, known as Elsie, was born in Vancouver in 1905. Elsie's father was James Henry MacGill, a well-known lawyer. Her mother was Helen Gregory MacGill, a newspaper reporter and the first woman judge in British Columbia. Helen worked to change legislation to improve the lives of women and children in Canada.
