In April of 1961, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) supported and trained a brigade of expatriate Cubans to invade Cuba. Within seventy-two hours of the initial attack, cut off from re-supply, the nearly two thousand troops ran out of ammunition and were overwhelmed by Cuban militia and army units. While President John Fitzgerald Kennedy publicly took responsibility for the events, investigations proved that the blame should have been placed solely in the hands of the CIA
