MOHAWK INDIANS
Native Americans are people who are local to the Americas. They are also known as American Indians. They tend to have light brown skin, brown eyes, and dark straight hair. After the American Revolution the Mohawk took refuge in Canada, where many still remain. About 5,000 live on reservations at Brantford, Ontario, and at the Bay of Quinte. They still farm, and many work in construction. Two settlements can be found in New York State. One in Franklin and one in Saint Lawrence County. According to the 1990 census, 15,490 people in the United States reported being of Mohawk descent.
